Chicago Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus stressed his team needs to make improvements after the Week 1 loss, and sporting betting sites are predicting a major one.

According to BetOnline.ag, the Bears currently have the best odds (outside of the Washington Commanders) to acquire star defensive end Chase Young.

The move wouldn't be far fetched either. Bears' general manager Ryan Poles has developed a very loud personality in the league of wanting to spend big no matter the cost. Since taking over in 2022, Poles has made over a dozen total trades.

The wheeling and dealing mindset could prompt Poles to pick up the phone with Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew. If the Commanders elect to not keep Young, the Bears have the best odds to land the 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year at 2/1. Their division rivals in Detroit fall close behind with 3/1 odds.

The Commanders former second overall pick has been a game changer on the field since entering the league. Young has totaled nine sacks, six forced fumbles, and 75 total tackles in 27 games. Health, however, remains a concern.

Young returned to practice on Thursday, opening the window for the former Pro Bowler to return to action in Week 2. The 24-year-old missed the season opener with a neck injury and missed the majority of the 2022 season after suffering a late season knee injury in 2021.

Despite his success, Young's availability forced Washington to decline his fifth-year option this season, thus making him a 2024 free agent. If the right offer were to be made by October 31's trade deadline, Young might be on the move.

Poles absolutely should make the call after the team's performance in Week 1. In 2022, the Bears ranked 32nd in sacks and Sunday's loss showed no signs of improvement in that department despite key additions that were made over the offseason.

If Poles and Eberflus really want to bring some improvements to the team this season, it could be time to pony up for a star defensive player such as Young. Only time will tell what decisions might be made, but the phones should at the very least be ringing.
