Caleb Williams’ clutch and heroic moments this season wasn’t enough to sway Pro Bowl votes among his peers and it’s very easy to see why
It was close, but his play hasn’t been a Pro Bowl level, yet.
The NFL released the 2025 Pro Bowl rosters on Tuesday heading into Week 17 and despite being the leading team in fan voting, the Chicago Bears only had three players selected for the NFC roster.
Those players were veteran safety Kevin Byard, left guard Joe Thuney, and center Drew Dalman. Truthfully, the Pro Bowl has lost all of it’s aura and turned into a name recognition event. It’s rare to see newcomers crack the list, and it’s great to see Dalman be one of the few first-time selections.
The Bears had plenty of obvious snubs miss the list such as cornerback Nahshon Wright and right tackle Darnell Wright. Another one fans will likely be frustrated seeing left off the list is quarterback Caleb Williams, but it’s easy to see why he missed the cut and why his peers voted another direction.
Caleb Williams has not played at a Pro Bowl worthy level in 2025
Don’t get me wrong, Williams has played at a high level at times this season but the overall vacuum of his 2025 season hasn’t bee great despite the team’s 11-4 record. When it comes to voting, it makes sense that Williams ranked 4th in the entire league in fan voting but missed the actual cut and it’s because players and coaches see what fans might overlook.
What the fans see is the six fourth-quarter comebacks Williams has led this season and his ability to deliver when it matters most and the game is on the line.
While it’s true he has that clutch gene, the other parts of the game haven’t been Pro Bowl caliber this season compared to Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, and Sam Darnold and that’s the area that still is holding Williams back from earning respect amongst players and coaches. The stats speak for itself.
| Matthew Stafford | Dak Prescott | Sam Darnold | Caleb Williams | |
| Comp Pct | 65.7% | 68.5% | 67.2% | 57.8% |
| Passing Yards | 4,179 | 4,175 | 3,703 | 3,400 |
| Passing TDs | 40 | 28 | 24 | 23 |
| Interceptions | 5 | 10 | 13 | 6 |
| EPA | 121.73 | 75.66 | 50.68 | 29.63 |
The heroics and clutch moments Williams has shown this season have been awesome to watch, no question about it. But, even the most die-hard Bears fans can tell you Williams still needs to improve in a lot of areas before earning some league-wide recognition.
Caleb Williams isn’t at a Pro Bowl level, but you can tell it’s coming soon
While his play can still improve in a lot of areas, Williams is starting to slowly turn the corner at the right time for his team, and Saturday’s comeback against the Green Bay Packers showed that to an extent, even if it was another slow start for the offense.
“He came through and he always makes plays when needed,” Bears head coach Ben Johnson said. “He’s clutch like that. We’ll go back. We’ll look at anything that we could have done better over the course of the game, but I thought he always keeps a level head… I think he gets better every single week. I think that’s something we keep talking about. I really do think he is playing some of his best football right now of the year.”
With eyes now set to the postseason and looking to make a run in the playoffs, it’s encouraging to see Johnson talk about his quarterback like this. And with a full season under his belt in this new offense, Williams can really look to take the league by storm in 2026.
