The 2024 NFL Draft will soon be upon us and the Chicago Bears, as it stands, will be on the clock with the first overall pick in the draft.

Beyond the first overall pick, the Bears also now know which selections the team is currently slated to pick at during the remainder of the entire draft, barring any trades.

The NFL released its compensatory selections, which paved the way for the official draft pick release. The Bears have four total picks and all four selections will be in the first four rounds. Chicago previously held a second selection in the fourth round and a selection in the fifth round but traded both picks for wide receiver Keenan Allen and offensive lineman Ryan Bates. Below are the current selections the Bears are in possession of heading into the draft.

Bears' official picks in the 2024 NFL Draft

  • Round 1: No. 1 overall (via CAR)
  • Round 1: No. 9 overall
  • Round 3: No. 75 overall
  • Round 4: No. 122 overall (via PHI)

The Bears are definitely lacking when it comes to the amount of selections they currently have in the draft which incentivizes general manager Ryan Poles to make some kind of move before the start of April's draft.

Poles and the Bears' front office will have three options to consider making in order to secure more picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. The first, and most likely option, comes from trading quarterback Justin Fields, although the market for the Bears' 2023 starter seems to be drying up heading into the draft.

A more sizable haul will come from trading the first overall pick, a move Poles himself said would require a massive return in order to pass up the top pick for the second year in a row. However, the Bears were able to load up on 2023 and future draft picks around this time last year by moving on from first overall pick before the 2023 draft.

The third option would be trading back but from the ninth overall pick as opposed to the first overall pick. Depending on how the board goes during the first eight selections and the Bears' confidence level of still landing their ideal prospect after moving back a few picks, this option could prove to be worth looking into.

Personally, I believe the Bears will trade Fields for ideally a mid round draft pick and will maybe moving back from the ninth overall pick if their ideal target is off the board. In my mind, it's too important for the Bears to come away with their next franchise quarterback with the first overall pick and should instead look to acquire additional draft picks from one of both of those two other options.
