Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has deservedly received plenty of praise around the league in 2022. In what has been a stellar second season in the NFL, Fields has gained the respect of opposing players and coaches along the way.
The Bears (3-10) square off against the Philadelphia Eagles (12-1) on Sunday in a matchup of two teams moving in completely opposite directions. However, a losing season hasn’t marred MVP frontrunner Jalen Hurts’ perception of Fields.
Hurts was asked about what he’s noticed about Fields’ development this season in his media availability on Wednesday.
“Talking about Justin Fields, he’s always been a player I’ve had a lot of respect for. At Georgia, at Ohio State, coming into the Bears and doing what he’s been able to [do] in a short period of time, he’s just continued to climb. He’s a definite threat over there, I know you have to be prepared for him.”
Hurts, playing in just his third season, has taken an incredible leap as a passer in 2022. With a similar playing style, Hurts’ evolution as a quarterback gives Bears hope for what Fields can grow into in the future.
The Bears are in a rebuilding phase, but how Philadelphia has been able to build around Hurts is a prime example of what Chicago’s blueprint should look like. It’s great that Hurts is acknowledging Fields’ abilities, but the hope in Chicago is that these two will be battling it out at the top of the NFC for years to come.
