Even though the 2025 NFL Draft is still a few months away, fans around the league are starting to dive into the top prospects entering the draft with their teams' season over.
And it looks like some players are already looking ahead to the draft as well.
On Tuesday, Chicago Bears' defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. was interacting with a few different posts on X and quote tweeted one post in particular advocating the team to draft a new impact player to the defensive front in the first-round.
The Bears will officially have the 10th overall pick in April's draft and it's widely expected the team will draft someone in the trenches with that pick, either on the offensive line or on the defensive line.
Based on Dexters' post, it seems like he's wanting a new running mate on defense to be drafted in the first-round, specifically Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen.
After an insanely productive 2024 campaign with the Rebels after transferring from Florida, it's looking more and more likely that Umanmielen will land somewhere in the Top-32 picks on the opening night of the draft, but could the Bears consider him with the 10th overall pick?
That obviously depends on the team's board and who's available when they're on the clock, and there's a lot of moving parts between now and then. But, there's a lot to like with Umanmielen.
Physically, all the tools are there. At 6'4, 255 pounds, Umanmielen has the size to start off the edge and answered all the consistency issues in 2024 after racking up 10.5 sacks and 14 tackles for a loss. From a pure pass rushing standpoint, Umanmielen looks to be one of the best in the class.
There's still plenty of time for his stock to rise up to the Bears' selection, but right now drafting him 10th overall might be a bit of a reach. Based on our A to Z Mock Draft Database, the earliest Umanmielen has come off the board has been 22nd overall and his average draft position is currently sitting at 31.36.
A strong showing during the pre-draft process could easily change that, for better or worse. If Umanmielen crushes his pre-draft evaluations, Dexter could have his wish come true and play alongside him and Montez Sweat on the defensive front in 2025.
