The Chicago Bears were involved in plenty of trade rumors throughout the NFL Combine and it lines up with what general manager Ryan Poles stated about getting various calls on different players since the season ended.

Three players connected to trade rumors were obvious in WR DJ Moore, QB Tyson Bagent, and LB Tremaine Edmunds. Moore’s future continues to look cloudy, QB-needy teams are desperate for any viable option, and Edmunds’ cap hit makes some form of breakup inevitable.

The one Bears name that shockingly popped up in trade discussions last week was defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. after Jordan Schultz reported teams have inquired about the availability of Chicago’s former second-round pick.

Brad Biggs isn’t buying the Gervon Dexter Sr. trade rumors after the NFL Combine

On Monday, Bears insider Brad Biggs from the Chicago Tribune went on 104.3 The Score and downplayed the idea that the Bears would entertain any offers for Dexter or consider parting ways with him at all this offseason.

“They’re not taking calls on him,” Biggs explained. They’re not making calls on him … I’m reporting nothing is happening on that … I don’t want to speculate on other people’s work. They’ve got two defensive tackles under contract. They’re not looking to move one. Gervon Dexter will be with the Bears next season.”

That sounds as definitive as it could possibility be from the most-plugged Bears insider there is on the beat. And the two defensive tackles (Dexter and Grady Jarrett) under contract thing is a great point. If defensive tackle is already a top need for this team, what sense does it make to trade a cheap, young player at that position?

At the same time, Dexter isn’t the best scheme-fit for defensive coordinator Dennis Allen’s defense and it’s already clear Allen intends to overhaul the entire unit this offseason. But, this isn’t one of those cases where the Bears gain an addition by a subtraction.

Given the scheme-fit and the fact that Dexter is entering into the final year of his contract, I can see where this trade rumor started coming from to see if Chicago can get something out of a young player before letting him walk next offseason. But, I’d side with Biggs here and say Dexter will stay put in Chicago, for now.
