The Chicago Bears have built an expansive list in the search for the team's next head coach and one name as rejoined the list once again after it was assumed he would be off the team's radar.

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the Bears are still interested in interviewing Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman for their vacant head coach position.

This news comes weeks after Freeman reportedly agreed to a four-year extension with the program that would tie him to South Bend for six more years.

The kicker here for the Bears is that Freeman currently is in the process of preparing his team for the National Championship against Ohio State, a game that will be played on January 20th. Pelissero added that it's unlikely Freeman will entertain any other opportunities before that in order to keep his sole focus on the big game.

"The Bears have done extensive research for months on Marcus Freeman… would not be a shock if he at least considers going to the NFL," Pelissero said.

The timing of this is odd, considering Freeman has already agreed to an extension with Notre Dame and seems to be happy being a part of the culture he's created.

“I try not to waste time thinking about an uncertain future,” Freeman said back on November 21st. “I tell our players all the time: ‘Your future is uncertain.’ I try not to waste time thinking about any things that aren’t in the moment, and so I haven’t spent any time really thinking about what the future will provide."

With Freeman's name back attached to the Bears' search, that now makes 18 names involved in the search in some capacity. The Bears have already conducted seven virtual interviews and have more to complete in the coming days. Below is the updated list of names attached to the team's search.
