The Chicago Bears left for London, England for their Week 6 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night and departed without a key starter.

Starting safety Jaquan Brisker was not with the rest of the team, and neither were defensive tackle Zacch Pickens and cornerback Terell Smith. Left guard Teven Jenkins, who left the game with an ankle injury on Sunday, did travel with the team.

Pickens and Smith each missed the Week 5 win with various injuries, Brisker was not with the team on the way to London after self-reporting concussion-like symptoms Monday afternoon. Brisker was later diagnosed with a concussion but could rejoin the team in London if he clears protocol later in the week.

Brisker suffered the concussion after taking a big hit were he forced a fumble against Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble. Tremble was knocked out on the play and ruled out with a concussion. Brisker reportedly was shaken up by the hit but still finished the game up until the final drive when all the defensive starters were pulled.

Here's the play that injured both players.

The nature of Brisker's injury is concerning when looking at his history with head injuries since entering the league in 2022. This is the fifth game Brisker could miss due to a concussion since being drafted by the Bears.

Brisker's last concussion occurred against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 of last year. His concussion was originally considered injury-related and he finished that game too, but missed each of the next two games after being diagnosed with a concussion.

We've learned over the last few years that these injuries can be really concerning for players, especially for players who have suffered multiple in a short period of time. If Brisker can't clear protocol in time to make the trip for London, safety Elijah Hicks is expected to start in his place. The Bears also have Jonathan Owens as a backup option and could elevate Tavarius Moore once again from the practice squad.

Brisker has recorded 40 tackles, 1.0 sack, two pass deflections, and two total turnovers for the Bears through five games this season.
