The Chicago Bears are deep in their search for the team's next head coach and all of the players have been paying attention to the progress the organization is making.

So far, the Bears have interviewed 17 different candidates in the first-round and this week will be prepared to narrow down that list and have a small pool of candidates return for second interviews in-person at Halas Hall.

After that, the team is expected to move quickly to offer a contract to the consensus choice before another team beats them to the punch.

Based on what a handful of players have revealed so far, there seems to be a consensus in the locker room for the type of head coach they hope the organization hires in the coming days.

Quarterback Caleb Williams mentioned last week that he selfishly wants "an offensive-minded guy" that he can build with for years to come. And on Sunday, a young Bears' defensive star relayed a similar mindset.

"The best. But I would prefer offensive coach," safety Jaquan Brisker said when replying to a fan on X. "So when we dominate and win he stay."

The move toward preferring offensive-minded head coaches has been a popular trend over the last few years and even seeing a defensive player share that feeling is pretty telling, and the reasoning makes sense.

Just look at two specific young quarterbacks in particular: Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield. Since being drafted by the Buffalo Bills, Allen has had three different offensive coordinators and could lose Joe Brady to a head coaching job this cycle. For Mayfield, he could lose a second consecutive offensive coordinator and be on his third in as many seasons in Tampa Bay if Liam Coen gets hired.

When you have a defensive head coach, other teams will be lining up to poach your offensive coordinator from you if the unit becomes successful. For a quarterback like Williams who's already had three different offensive coordinators in one season, you'd like to keep some consistency in the unit, which means prioritizing an offensive guy.

A few weeks back when general manager Ryan Poles discussed the upcoming search, he noted that the development of Williams will be a huge factor in who the team decides to hire, but added that won't be a limiting factor.

Good news for those wanting an offensive head coach, the three top candidates on the Bears' radar are all offensive-minds in Ben Johnson, Mike McCarthy, and Todd Monken. All three should be expected back this week for second interviews. But, some defensive coaches could still be in the mix such as Brian Flores and Aaron Glenn.

No matter who the Bears choose, the players just want someone who can win and have the team playing meaningful football again.

It’s going to change soon," Brisker added on social media. "Chicago needs a trophy! The fans deserve that. It’s been too long and I feel yall pain."

This upcoming decision will be a big one for the entire future of the Bears and the organization can't afford to get it wrong once again.
