Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields emerged as one of the NFL’s most promising young players in 2022. Unfortunately Fields’ growth did not reflect in the Bears’ 3-14 record, but there is reason to believe a significant turnaround could be on the horizon.

Fields joined The Rich Eisen Show on Thursday where he discussed the new culture in Halas Hall.

“There were a lot of ups and downs,” Fields said. “Just with the culture of our team, and the foundation that we built this year, we play for each other. No matter what our record is no matter what the scoreboard is, I know that the guys that I’m playing with are gonna go out and give their all for me. That’s just the mentality we have.”

“Just starting off with that culture I think we’ll continue to grow and continue to get better. Next year we’ll definitely have a better record.”

Head coach Matt Eberflus had his hands full when he took the Bears job last offseason, but it appears that the players have bought in to his approach.

Coming Up Short

Eisen pointed out that the Bears didn’t seem like the worst team in the NFL throughout the season. Instead, Chicago was held back by numerous unfortunate late-game errors.

“There were a lot of games, I think it was six or seven, that were within one possession. A lot of games where we just came up a little short,” Fields admitted.

He’s not wrong, either. The Bears finished the regular season with a 1-7 record in games decided by one score or less. If water finds its level, Chicago’s misfortune late in close games will flip eventually.

“Next year we’re just gonna take advantage of those opportunities, those late game situations, and capitalize on them,” Fields stated.

Fields’ comments are everything a fanbase would want to hear from their starting quarterback. The bears’ signal caller is set to turn 24 in March, but his maturity and competitive nature are comparable to a veteran’s mentality. While Fields suggests change is coming, Bears fans need to see it in order to believe it.
