With the world caving in around him on what seems like a weekly basis, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields continues to defy all odds.

The result wasn’t what Bears fans wanted in Sunday’s 25-20 loss to the league-leading Philadelphia Eagles. However, Fields managed to shine behind a makeshift offensive line, which allowed six sacks on the day.

Fields finished the game 14-of-21 passing for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He racked up 95 yards on 15 carries, which moves him closer to making NFL history.

In fact, Fields becomes just the third quarterback to eclipse 1,000 yards rushing in a single season. He joins elite company in Michael Vick (2006) and Lamar Jackson (2019 & 2020). Jackson holds the NFL record with 1,206 rushing yards, of which he accumulated in his 2019 campaign.

His 95 yards on Sunday puts Fields at precisely 1,000 rushing yards on the season. With three games left, Fields must average 69 rushing yards per game to snap Jackson’s record.

Fields’ pursuit of the record is just about the only thing that will keep Bears fans interested for the remainder of the season. It’s the lone silver lining in what has been a tumultuous year in Chicago.
