It’s been a weekend full of bad news for the Chicago Bears’ nickel cornerback Kyler Gordon in the lead-up to the team’s Week 8 game against the Baltimore Ravens.

After popping up late in the week on the injury report with a groin and calf injury, Gordon was officially ruled out going into the weekend, but that was just the start of the bad news. On Saturday, the Bears placed Gordon on the injured reserve, knocking him out for at least the next four games.

Gordon already missed the first four games of the 2025 regular season due to a hamstring injury. The recently paid defensive back returned in Weeks 6 and 7, showing the impact he has on the defense.

Losing Gordon is a tough blow alone, not to mention the number of injuries stacking up for the team’s defensive back room that will now be without cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson. But Gordon did get some good news on Saturday that could lift his spirits a little bit.

Kyler Gordon not fined for Week 7 hit on Alvin Kamara

During the Bears’ win in Week 7 against the New Orleans Saints, Gordon was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a hit he laid on Saints running back Alvin Kamara. While speaking to reporters in the locker room after the game, Gordon wasn’t happy with the decision to throw the flag and was also worried about a potential fine that could come his way from the league after reviewing the game.

“Blew him up,” Gordon said of the hit. “Did my job and they didn’t like it. I don’t know what to say. You can review the film, and I’m hoping I don’t get fined. I’m not trying to get fined. I think I did the right thing. We’ll review it.”

On Saturday, the league released the extensive list of fines issued around the NFL from the Week 7 slate, and Gordon should be happy to see his name was not included.

The same goes for Bears safety Jaquan Brisker, who was flagged in Week 7 for a roughing the passer call for a hit on Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler. After reviewing the footage, the league did not fine Brisker for roughing the passer, a fine that could go up to $17,389.

Other roster moves made ahead of Week 8

Along with Gordon, Chicago also placed offensive tackle Braxton Jones on the injured reserve with a knee injury. After being replaced as the starting left tackle, Jones started receiving some trade speculation for other tackle-needy teams, but this designation shuts the door on those trade rumors.

In a corresponding move, the Bears signed defensive tackle Jonathan Ford off the practice squad and onto the 53-man roster. Two other practice squad players were elevated to the gameday roster: tight end Stephen Carlson and cornerback Dallis Flowers, to give the team some needed depth at those two positions.

Last but not least, neither second-year defensive end Austin Booker nor linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga was activated from the injured reserve despite the team having one open spot on the roster. Booker’s 21-day practice window closes on Tuesday, so eventually a decision will have to be made. Ogbongbemiga had his 21-day practice window opened on Oct. 16.
