The Chicago Bears have officially placed starting guard Teven Jenkins on the injured reserve, meaning he will miss the first four weeks of the regular season.
General manager Ryan Poles announced the news on Wednesday during his press conference. In Jenkins' absence, the Bears will have to fill the void with either Dan Feeney, who was in a trade with the Dolphins earlier this week, or Ja'Tyre Carter.
Head coach Matt Eberflus noted during his press conference on Tuesday that he expects all of the Bears starters, except Jenkins, to be ready for the season opener on September 10.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jenkins is dealing with calf strains in both of his legs that Eberflus revealed was suffered during joint practices against the Indianapolis Colts last week. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported the injury could sideline the Bears starter for up to six weeks.
The Bears traded up to select Jenkins in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Injuries became a concern during his rookie season, sidelining Jenkins for 11 games. In his second year, Jenkins was moved across the front to right guard and only started 11 games due to a neck injury and other ailments.
Jenkins will be forced to miss out on a highly anticipated Week 1 divisional matchup against the Green Bay Packers. He will be eligible to return in a primetime matchup in Week 5 when the Bears are set to face off against the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football.
