The Chicago Bears are expected to make some changes following another disappointing loss in Week 10, but what that change looks like is still anyone's guess.
Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus met with the media on Monday during his usual press conference and addressed all the questions regarding potential moves the team might make amid a three game losing streak.
However, Eberflus made one thing crystal clear, Caleb Williams will remain the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears.
As for the other changes that could take place, the Bears' head coach still noted that the team is working through everything, including the status of Shane Waldron as the offensive coordinator and primary offensive play-caller.
"Just in the process of getting that done," Eberflus said. "There will be changes, adjustments being made, again, I'm not going to disclose those right now at that point in the process…
"Monday is a long day in terms of the evaluation of everything, in terms of lineups, in terms of the coaching, terms of how we need to do better in that coaching, and how we need to better communication in game, during the game, after the game, prior to the game. So it's important that we take time to make make those decisions and make the right decisions."
As for how those discussions will be made, Eberflus said that he will be making those decisions alone but has spoken with general manager Ryan Poles. However, Eberflus will welcome input from his rookie quarterback.
"I just want to take the temperature him, where he's at, where his confidence level is, which is high," Eberflus said. "Him working with the other players, relational and also scheme, making sure we're getting that done. And he's where he is right now."
The most obvious decision would be to change who's calling the plays on offense, as a start to hopefully find some answers on offense. What Waldron has been doing hasn't worked and he's had no answers for what's holding the unit back.
"There's an urgency there, and there's an adjustment, changes that are necessary in that process, because it hasn't worked the last three weeks, and I'm fully aware of that too," Eberflus added. "So again, I'm not just at that point right now, in terms of stating those changes, because we're in the middle of that process."
Changing play-callers doesn't mean completely moving on from Waldron, although when given the chance to speak on that reality, Eberflus noted that removing Waldron entirely from the staff is another part of the evaluation phase.
If the Bears do decide to move on from Waldron in any capacity as the offensive coordinator or just as the primary play-caller, passing game coordinator Thomas Brown is the most obvious candidate to take over either role with the team.
