Friday morning was back to business as usual for the Chicago Bears, and most importantly head coach Matt Eberflus, following an embarrassing loss on Thanksgiving to the Detroit Lions.
After the team's collapse on the final drive on a national stage, the Bears' head coach still came into work at Halas Hall this morning and just recently met with the media.
During his zoom press conference, Eberflus took full accountability for the final sequence of Thursday's game.
"Operation is on everybody. It's on me first," Eberflus said via Nicholas Moreano. "We were just hoping we would get that play off on time."
The play in question was a third-and-long following a sack on quarterback Caleb Williams. With the clocking winding down, the Bears opted not to use their final timeout and instead struggled to get lined up to run another play before calling the third timeout. However, too much time had expired before the Bears could get a play off and the game ended on an incomplete pass with one timeout still in the pocket.
As a result, the Bears, who have now lost six consecutive games including three straight against a division rival. Despite the recent struggled, things have seemingly been the normal operation at Halas Hall to start the morning.
According to Eberflus, the coaches revisited yesterday's loss and are now beginning the work for the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers on December 8th.
After how the game ended on Thursday and the final moments leading up to the last play to lose the game, many fans believed they watched the final Bears' game with Eberflus as the head coach.
Eberflus acknowledged he did meet with team president Kevin Warren and general manager Ryan Poles, which is usual, after the game and will meet with the two again later today.
Given Eberflus had nearly nine minutes to speak with reporters this morning, it's clear the team shouldn't be expected to make any decisions on his job status during the long break before the team's next game.
As for the players, Eberflus added they will have the remainder of the holiday weekend off and will return to the facilities on Monday.
