The Chicago Bears had an outcome many might have expected on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 41-10 miserable loss to the defending champs puts the Bears at 0-3 now on the season, the team's worst start since 2016.
Head coach Matt Eberflus addressed the media after the huge loss and stated that he's "not making excuses" anymore for the team's performance. After the two weeks, he's just about made every excuse he possibly could.
"Everybody's got to take a hard look at what they're doing," Eberflus added while talking to the media on Sunday. "In terms of the schemes we're running, just to put our players in position to execute."
It seemed like more than the scheme that was the issue against the Chiefs. Kansas City's offense out-produced the Bears unit by 253 total yards and held Chicago scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Justin Fields looked more comfortable in the pocket this time around however, and managed to make some plays with his legs. Fields led the team with 47 rushing yards on 11 attempts but was still sacked three times.
"Justin is working his tail off and again, we're finding the flow for him," Eberflus said. "We just gotta keep doing it. We got to find how to let him do his thing and explode."
While the offense continues to find their roadmap this season, the defense looked completely lost. The Bears were without a defensive coordinator for the second straight week and allowed the Chiefs to score 41 unanswered points.
Eberflus, the defensive-minded head coach, added that his staff will evaluate potentially bringing in another coach to help out on that side of the ball.
The Bears were able to show some life on Sunday, scoring 10 points in the final quarter, that included a 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DJ Moore, his first since joining the team.
These little moments of light keep giving the Bears head coach and the team an idea of what it is that they are eventually capable of. Fields stressed that despite the slow and disappointing start to the season, there's still a lot of time to improve with so much football left to be played.
"We need to get this thing going," Fields said while talking to reporters after the game. "The [Detroit] Lions started 1-6 last year and almost made the playoffs. [We] just need to keep that faith and keep going. The big picture is that it's the third game of the season. We got 14 left, at least, so just keep going and keep working. That's it."
Whether or not the Bears can turn the season around has yet to be seen. The Bears will get a week to improve before hosting the Denver Broncos next week.
