The Chicago Bears have multiple different avenues to explore in regards to how general manager Ryan Poles will continue building the team leading up to the 2024 season. Heading into Combine week, the Bears' top executive will soon be making a few critical decisions after speaking with multiple other executives during the event.

The Bears currently hold two strong trade assets in quarterback Justin Fields and the first overall pick in the draft. Chicago traded the top pick in the draft last offseason to the Carolina Panthers soon after the Combine wrapped up in March. Could Poles look to do a similar move once again this offseason?

In this mock draft scenario, I will have the Bears trading back not once, but twice, from the top pick in the draft. After Fields publicly expressed his desire to return to Chicago in 2024, Poles honors his wish after getting an idea of what he could land by moving on from the top pick and instead building around Fields as the starter.

For this trade to work, I will follow the blueprint laid out by the great Peter King in his final "Football Morning in America" piece released earlier today. Here's the trades he had the Bears making: trade down one spot with Washington for the second overall pick, a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 first-round pick. Then, trade the second pick to Atlanta for the eighth overall pick, Atlanta’s 2024 second-round pick, and first- and second-round picks next year. With this established, let's get to the mock.

8th Overall Pick (via ATL): WR Rome Odunze

The Bears trade back twice and still land one of the top wide receivers in the class with the Falcons former pick. Rome Odunze is an incredible athlete and would be my ideal first-round draft target for the Bears outside of the quarterback situation.

Odunze would be the perfect complement to wide receiver DJ Moore on offense and gives Fields a crafty weapon who can help move the sticks and be a redzone threat. The Bears' offense struggled in those two areas of the game in 2023 by not having a competent wide receiver outside of Moore for Fields to target.

NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah listed Odunze as his third ranked overall prospect in his updated Top-50 board released today. Jeremiah noted Odunze "thrives in traffic, possessing the ability to pluck the football and absorb big shots over the middle of the field." That middle of the field strength fills the lack of trust Fields had in his former wide receivers and give him a new favorite target to look toward in that area.

9th Overall Pick: DE Dallas Turner

After going with a wide receiver to pair with Moore with the eighth overall pick, the Bears are right back on the clock and pair defensive end Montez Sweat with a new pass rushing mate in Alabama's Dallas Turner.

New defensive coordinator Eric Washington claimed last week that the Bears will have the best pass rush in the league next season and adding another monster to play opposite Sweat seems to be a major priority. The Bears could look to add a top edge rusher on the free agent market but a much cheaper option will be to land one in the draft if given the opportunity.

In this mock, the opportunity makes too much sense to land a new pass rusher through the draft and Turner would be the Bears' best option. Turner had excellent production in the SEC and would be Nick Saban's latest and final monster defensive linemen to be selected in the Top-10 of the draft.

36th Overall Pick (via WAS): CB T.J. Tampa

Using the Commanders newly acquired second-round pick, the Bears can fill a potentially glaring hole that could open in the near future. The current situation with cornerback Jaylon Johnson still has no resolve in side with the franchise tag expected to be used in the coming days.

The tag will keep Johnson under contract for the 2024 season but his future in Chicago beyond that remains uncertain. If Johnson no longer fits into the Bears' long-term plans, the team could have a replacement in waiting in T.J. Tampa.

Our very own AtoZ Sports film expert James Foster listed 2023 Bears' second round pick Tyrique Stevenson as the ideal comparison for Tampa and perhaps it's a mold worth looking into again after Stevenson's solid rookie season. Tampa had two interceptions and seven pass deflections in 2023 while solidifying himself as one of the top cornerbacks in the class.

43rd Overall Pick (via ATL): TE Ja'Tavion Sanders

If the Bears' plan is to truly invest in Fields as the starting quarterback long-term, more top options in the middle of the field will have to be a priority. After already adding Odunze to the passing game, the Bears can look to add bigger bodied target in the middle of the field in Texas' tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders.

Yes, the Bears already have tight end Cole Kmet locked in with the team under a new contract extension. However, if newly hired offensive coordinator plans to bring a similar type of scheme to Chicago that he ran with the Seattle Seahawks, the Bears will need to look to add another tight end to the offense.

75th Overall Pick: S Kamren Kinchens

The Bears at some point this offseason will need to find a replacement for veteran safety Eddie Jackson after releasing him as a cap casualty. In the perfect scenario, the Bears can replace him immediately with a much younger option in Miami safety Kamren Kinchens in the third round.

This outcome would be ideal but also would require the board falling in the Bears' favor to have Kinchens land in their lap. If he's on the board, he's my ideal Bears' selection in the third round of April's draft. Kinchens is a very versatile defender who would be used all over the field on defense, pairing perfectly with Jaquan Brisker.

4th Round Pick: RB MarShawn Lloyd

During the evaluation of quarterback Caleb Williams, the Bears could find another USC offensive play-maker worth adding to the roster in 2024. Running back MarShawn Lloyd could be the ideal prospect to add to the Bears' backfield which already features Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson.

Herbert's injury in 2023 really put the Bears' backfield in a bind and adding one back to the room later in the draft should be an emphasis with D'Onta Foreman expected to walk in free agency. Johnson didn’t have the most impressive rookie season and Herbert will be a free agent following the 2024 season. Lloyd will give the Bears an impressive and imposing back to complement Fields in the run game for the future.

4th Round Pick: OT Sataoa Laumea

Many experts have linked the Bears to some of the top offensive tackle prospects in the class, but with Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones locked in as the bookends of the offensive line, it would be more effective to punt the need until later in the draft.

With that mindset, the Bears can opt to go with Utah offensive tackle Sataoa Laumea with their second pick in the fourth round. The Bears got a good look at Laumea during the 2024 Senior Bowl and could look to acquire him on Day Three. According to Pro Football Focus, Laumea allowed zero sacks on 388 pass block snaps this past season. He would be the ideal backup tackle to have on the roster.

5th Round Pick: DI Mekhi Wingo

Poles and Washington share one thing in common and it's their love of talented defensive linemen, and having a stockpile of them. Last year, Poles drafted two interior defensive linemen in Gervon Dexter and Zacch Pickens. With the Buffalo Bills, Washington's defensive line was filled with a rotation of dominant interior defenders.

With their last pick in the draft, Poles can select another SEC defensive linemen in LSU's Mekhi Wingo. After transferring from Missouri in 2021, Wingo recorded 7.5 sacks during his final two years at LSU. Wingo has been floated around as a potential sleeper in the class and would star on the Bears' defensive rotation.
