One of the Chicago Bears’ brightest young players had his season cut short after suffering an injury in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears placed rookie linebacker Jack Sanborn on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. Sanborn exited the game against Philadelphia prematurely after suffering an ankle injury.
Chicago uncovered a diamond in the rough, signing Sanborn as an undrafted free agent in the off-season. Having started in the team’s last six games, the University of Wisconsin product proved that he can be counted in the middle of the defense.
Sanborn took over as the starter in Week 9 and has been nothing short of spectacular since. His 59 total tackles in that time span rank 13th in the NFL while his five tackles for loss check in at 14th in the league.
He finishes his rookie campaign with 64 total tackles, 50 of them coming in the solo variety. Sanborn tallied two sacks and a fumble recovery to go along with those five TFLs.
Credit general manager Ryan Poles for discovering such a talent along with head coach Matt Eberflus and the defensive coaching staff for putting him in a position to show off his skillset.
Every great Bears team has featured an excellent linebacking corps. Sanborn’s development within the system should give Bears fans something to look forward to for years to come.
