An ideal outcome.

The Chicago Bears have made an official roster decision with one of the more puzzling situations on the team many have been wondering about since training camp opened.

Rookie cornerback Zah Frazier has been excused from the entirety of camp due to a “personal reason” and has only been seen once at the practice facilities since rookie minicamp ended in the spring.

The problem is, the Bears had to make some kind of move with the rookie ahead of Tuesday’s roster cut deadline, and that move has finally been made that helps bring some clarity to the situation.

Zah Frazier placed on NFI list

The Bears officially placed Frazier on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.

Update as of 8/26: General manager Ryan Poles confirmed on Tuesday that Frazier’s designation will be a season-ending move as the rookie continues to handle the personal matter. Frazier will be able to attend meetings, workout, and work with the medical still, but WILL NOT play in 2025.

After missing all of training camp and the preseason, Frazier has naturally fallen way behind the rest of his teammates. Placing him on the NFI list allows the Bears to keep Frazier on the roster and in the building throughout the 2025 season..

This also reinforces the faith the Bears have in Frazier’s ability to be a player for this team in the future. When the Bears drafted Frazier, you can see how excited the front office and coaching staff were to land this guy, especially defensive backs coach Al Harris, who was pounding on the desk to draft Frazier months ahead of the draft.

The Bears could have easily just waived Frazier and risked being able to bring him back on the practice squad after clearing waivers. Instead, the team is able to hold on to him without using an official roster slot.

As for the personal matter, hopefully everything works out over time and Frazier is able to get back on the field with the Bears next season.
