The Chicago Bears parted ways with one of its veteran defenders on Tuesday.
The Bears released defensive end Al-Quadin-Muhammad, which comes as a bit of a surprise. Quadin-Muhammad signed a two-year deal with Chicago last offseason and had a sizable role on the defense in 2022.
He appeared in 16 games, starting in nine, recording 29 tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss and one forced fumble on the year.
Head coach Matt Eberflus had a familiarity with Quadin-Muhammad after the pair spent four years together with the Indianapolis Colts. Eberflus, who was the Colts’ defensive coordinator, liked him enough to lure him to Chicago last season after he landed the head coaching job.
Quadin-Muhammad has spent six years in the NFL after originally being drafted by the New Orleans Saints. He is one of the first of the many moves that lie ahead for Bears general manager Ryan Poles in what many expect to be a very active offseason in Chicago.
