The 2024 season has been yet another lost season for the Chicago Bears but each game has given a small silver lining that show great things are to come for this team.
During the Bears' 38-13 loss where the team was heavily out-played and out-matched, it was rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze who shined the brightest during an otherwise ugly performance by the Bears.
That's been largely the story of the entire season for the team's first round draft choice, considering all three of his biggest games have come in significant losses.
Never mind the results, seeing Odunze continue to get better and better each week and the effort he puts in on a daily basis should be encouraging for the entire team.
"Rome has been very consistent since Day 1," interim head coach Thomas Brown said after Sunday's loss. "I think as far as his approach to the game, he's super mature, does a really good job in meetings of taking notes, being detailed, and doing exactly what we ask him to do."
Week 14's loss was the first game of Odunze's career with multiple receiving touchdowns while hauling in four of his five targets. The rookie continues to make plays when they matter most and has been automatic in late-game situations.
The high-level of play from Odunze hasn't been as consistent as you'd like, but the flashes have definitely shown throughout his rookie season. However, Odunze and his quarterback Caleb Williams are getting on the same page more often throughout their rookie season.
Even with the inconsistencies, Odunze is tied for 5th among rookies in receptions and is sixth in receiving yards through the first 13 weeks of the season while playing as the third wide receiver in a struggling offense. There's hope things will get even better in the near future for the team's rookie pass catcher.
As Odunze continues to do all of the little things right going into Sunday, the Bears will find more ways to give him opportunities to end his debut season on a high note over the final four games of the season.
