Amid the 6-3 start to the season for the Chicago Bears, a lot of players have been standing out on the offensive side of the ball in the first season under new head coach Ben Johnson but the brightest spot on the team through 10 weeks has to be wide receiver Rome Odunze.

The leap Odunze took from Year 1 to Year 2 has been incredible and he’s playing some of the best ball at his position on an offense riddled with all kinds of weapons the team wants to feed.

Odunze leads the team in all receiving categories after nine games and is coming off his third game of the season with double-digit targets. It’s not that the Bears are force feeding him the ball, he’s just getting open and earned the trust of being a primary read on the majority of plays. The connection he has with his quarterback, Caleb Williams, helps too.

Rome Odunze has high expectations for the heights he can reach playing with Caleb Williams

Odunze has already been pretty vocal with some of the individual goals he hopes to achieve when the 2025 season is all said and done, but when asked about the connection with Williams, he set some pretty high expectations.

“It feels good and we’re in a good position right now,” Odunze said of his connection with Williams on the Intercepted Podcast with teammate Kevin Byard. “We’re continuing to develop that relationship. Even in the league, you get to those duos like Davante Adams-Aaron Rodgers, like Megatron-Matthew Stafford, there’s greater heights to be achieved. I feel like we have a good mindset. We like that we’re making plays… but I understand there’s so much more meat on the bone.”

Hearing Odunze mention two legendary QB-WR duos as the heights he can achieve with his quarterback should bring music to the ears of Bears fans, especially considering those two amazing duos tormented the NFC North for years. The thought of Chicago potentially having a duo like that down the line in Williams and Odunze is exciting.

The difference with Williams and Odunze is that both players entered into the league at the same time and can develop at the same rate. Rodgers played six seasons as the starting quarterback before Adams was drafted and Johnson played two seasons before Stafford was drafted.

People are starting to see how special these two players can be for the future of the Chicago Bears and if they continue to build on that connection and keep such high expectations, the sky really is the limit for what Williams and Odunze can achieve playing together.
