The Chicago Bears made a surprisingly late addition to the Week 15 injury report and it could lead to some major implications against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football tomorrow.
The Bears announced on Sunday afternoon that left tackle Braxton Jones will not be travelling to Minnesota and has already been ruled out with a concussion.
Jones now becomes the fourth Bears' player who will miss Monday's divisional matchup due to a concussion, joining safety Jaquan Brisker, running back Roschon Johnson and offensive lineman Ryan Bates.
Jones never appeared on the injury report all week and this late minute injury news with an injury such as a concussion is obviously surprising to hear. According to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain, Jones reported lingering symptoms from last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers and was diagnosed with a concussion on Sunday.
In his absence, the Bears now have a major decision to make when it comes to who is going to start at left tackle in Jones' place to protect rookie quarterback Caleb Williams' blindside against the Vikings.
When Jones missed two games earlier in the season due to a knee injury, the team turned to Larry Borom to replace him. In those two games, Borom allowed four sacks and nine total pressures. In the entire 2024 season, Borom has allowed six sacks and 14 pressures.
Based on Borom's performance filling in this season, the best option to replace Jones will have to likely be third-round rookie Kiran Amegadjie. This season, Amegadjie has played 28 pass blocking snaps while allowing zero sacks and four pressures. If he gets the start, it'll be a major late-season opportunity for the rookie to prove himself.
Along with ruling out Jones, the Bears also announced that running back Darrynton Evans will be elevated from the practice squad for the second straight week with Johnson out with a concussion and D'Andre Swift questionable due to a groin injury.
