Communication is paramount for the Chicago Bears as the team navigates through its first season in a new regime.

General manager Ryan Poles spoke to the media ahead of the Bears’ Monday Night Football matchup on the road against the New England Patriots. While answering questions from reporters, Poles addressed the current state of the team.

Poles acknowledged that quarterback Justin Fields has been the center of the conversation.

“I know Justin has been a big topic in his development and we are encouraged with the progress that is there,” Poles pointed out. “He is getting better in a lot of different areas. I think, as a whole, we’ve got to continue to play better around him as well.”

It’s been difficult to properly assess Fields’ growth in his second season with Chicago. Playing behind an offensive line while throwing to the least talented group of pass catchers in the NFL hasn’t made his life any easier.

That does not absolve him from his own deficiencies, of which there are numerous.

Poles biggest offseason disappointment was failing to put talent around Fields. Bears fans have a right to be frustrated in that department, but Poles took it a step further on Monday by declaring that he has no regrets with how he handled Fields’ supporting cast.

Poles' full answer can be found in the tweet below.

To be fair to Poles, he inherited a roster with so many holes that it could not possibly be fixed in just one offseason. That being said, it’s the offense has glaring deficiencies that even a football novice could notice.

Poles has an opportunity to redeem himself at the NFL’s trade deadline set to expire on November 1. How he handles the deadline will go a long way for Poles in his quest to gain trust within this fanbase.
