The Chicago Bears are leaving no stone left unturned in what's already turned out to be an extensive coaching search, something that was promised by general manager Ryan Poles during his end of season press conference.

Poles also mentioned that he's willing to explore any avenue to bring in the best man for the job as the organization's next head coach.

So far, the Bears have interviewed five candidates with more expected to be conducted throughout the week. But, the Bears can't get caught in the dust while conducting such an expansive search.

The New England Patriots have already hired their guy in Mike Vrabel, someone who interviewed with the Bears virtually last week and the Dallas Cowboys already blocked the Bears from meeting with Mike McCarthy, for the time being.

There's another leader of men type out there and a former Super Bowl winning coach the Bears could consider, and the phone might be open for business after this weekend.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers suffered another crushing defeat in the playoffs despite putting together a double digit win season during the regular season. It was the fifth straight playoff loss for head coach Mike Tomlin, who might have reached his ceiling with the team he's been coaching since 2007.

It'd be difficult to see the Steelers move on from their long-time coach but something needs to give for Pittsburgh to get over this hump they can't get across. This time last year, Steelers' owner Art Rooney stated everyone is "anxious to take this next step — and getting a little impatient — and we need to see the kind of improvement we all want to see" and instead they found themselves in the exact same position this year.

If the Steelers have finally had enough with Tomlin and want to go a new direction in 2025, the Bears shouldn't hesitate to get on the phone with Pittsburgh.

Trading for a head coach is never an easy option, which is why it's so rare to see it happen. Making a move for Tomlin would easily cost the Bears their 10th overall pick and more to make it happen, but Tomlin has some say in it as well.

Tomlin has a no-trade clause in his contract with the Steelers and would have to sign off on where he goes next if the team where to explore trading him. Tomlin does have ties to Bears' president Kevin Warren after the two worked together with the Minnesota Vikings in 2006 and he certainly fits all the qualities the team is looking for.

The last head coach to be traded was Sean Payton, who was traded from the New Orleans Saints to the Denver Broncos with the Broncos giving up a 2023 first-round pick (29th overall) and a 2024 second-round pick while getting Payton and a 2024 third-round pick in return.

That would be quite the haul for the Bears to give up but if the team is fully committed to finding the right guy, and Tomlin is the right guy, you have to make the deal. If the Steelers fully believe the team cannot go any higher with Tomlin, this would be a win-win-win for all three parties.
