Bears’ search for a new stadium location is finally weighing into what matters, but the organization is still taking an ill-timed approach
The Chicago Bears’ stadium process is finally looking to have some fan input.
The Chicago Bears’ search for a new “world-class” stadium has been an on-going process for years now with team president Kevin Warren spear-heading the exhaustive and elaborate plan.
The Bears have played around with multiple ideas for the team’s new stadium between keeping it in downtown Chicago, moving the stadium to Arlington Heights, and more recently threw out the idea of moving the Bears out of Chicago completely.
The last major update released by the organization hit Bears fans where it hurts the most by mentioning the idea of moving the team to Northwest Indiana and the timing of it was even worse considering it came ahead of the team’s regular season rematch against the Green Bay Packers.
On Monday, after the team advanced to the NFC Divisional Round, the Bears once again used the spotlight to force the stadium talk onto the fanbase.
Latest news regarding Bears stadium search at least calls for fan input this time around
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears have sent out a survey to to season ticket holders on Monday afternoon. The first question on that survey asked a simple but significant question:
“How would you characterize your interest in purchasing season tickets at a new stadium in Northwest Indiana?”
Talk about bad timing and not having a pulse on this entire situation, but credit to the Bears for actually asking for fan input on where they would like to see the Bears play in the future.
When the Bears released the previous statement a few weeks back, the statement noted that “this is not about leverage” but that couldn’t be further from the truth. By mentioning Northwest Indiana as a potential option, the Bears forced a tug-of-war between Illinois and Indiana while sitting back and weighing the pros and cons of both options.
Over the weekend, before the team’s first round playoff game, it was reported that Warren along with team owner George McCaskey and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell took a little stroll to Arlington Heights and eventually over to Northwest Indiana to scout out potential locations for the new stadium.
Ultimately, fans are tired of hearing about this right now. The Bears are contending in the NFC playoffs and looking to make a serious run at a Super Bowl with another home game coming up on Sunday at Soldier Field against the Los Angeles Rams.
Respectfully, now isn’t the time. Save it for the offseason when there isn’t bigger things for fans to be worried about and in the meantime, make some actual progress.
