The Chicago Bears might have a new team who could be interested in trading for running back Khalil Herbert. However, the clock is ticking with the deadline coming up at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, November 4th.
The countdown is on to see if the Bears will move their former starting running back, who's been a healthy inactive in each of the last two games.
The new team who could be interested in adding Herbert via trade before the deadline passes is the Cincinnati Bengals.
Following a 41-24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Bengals are now 4-5 on the season and very much still alive in the race for the playoffs.
However, Cincinnati suffered some major injury news on Monday regarding running back Zack Moss. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that Moss will be sidelined indefinitely with a neck injury that held him out of the Week 9 win.
The team instead had to rely solely on Chase Brown, who set career-highs in carries (27) and rushing yards (120) on Sunday. No other running back on the Bengals' roster touched the ball in the win.
While that seems like a solid performance, our own A to Z Cincinnati expert John Sheeran doesn't believe that's a sustainable formula for the offense and the team could call around for other options depending on how long Moss is sidelined for.
"The Bengals need to figure out how to ensure Chase Brown doesn’t get overworked without Moss in the picture. The 24-year old touched the ball 32 times on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, which is not sustainable every single week. Trayveon Williams and Kendall Milton are the only guys behind Brown on the depth chart, so an upgrade for RB2 duties would not be hard to find. The severity of Moss’ neck injury is also a factor here and if they feel like he could return in the next few weeks, a trade would be less likely. If they do make a move, that tells us all we need to know about his status." – A to Z Sports' John Sheeran
Based on this information, the Bears' front office should 100% be on the phone with Cincinnati to see if they'd be interested in acquiring Herbert.
Chicago clearly has no plans for the 26-year-old running back and the return of Travis Homer has completely removed Herbert from the gameday roster.
The Bengals currently have just one selection in each round of the 2025 NFL Draft but could be willing to give up a 6th or 7th rounder in order to add a young, fresh back into the offense for the remainder of the season for a playoff push.
Other teams such as the Dallas Cowboys could still be in the mix to pursue Herbert from the Bears and a deal should be considered likely in the next 24 hours. If not, Herbert will likely walk in free agency after the season ends.
