The Chicago Bears received some brutal injury news ahead of their Week 3 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

During his Wednesday morning press conference, Bears HC Matt Eberflus told reporters that starting LT Braxton Jones would be placed on injured reserve with a neck injury. The 2022 fifth-round draft pick has started 19 games for Chicago during the course of his career, playing the vast majority of his snaps at left tackle.

Jones will miss a minimum of four games as a result of his placement on injured reserve, but it could be much longer. Eberflus says there is currently no timetable for Jones' return from injured reserve and there is a possibility that the injury could be season-ending for the second-year offensive tackle.

Eberflus added that the Bears will consider both Larry Borom and Ja'Tyre Carter at left tackle in Jones' absence. Borom is expected to get the start at left tackle against the Chiefs in Week 3.

Jones wasn't exactly off to a hot start in 2023, allowing multiple sacks and recording six penalties through two games. He was, however, the team's best option at the left tackle position. Justin Fields is already struggling and a shake-up to the offensive line could put the team even further behind the eight ball than they already are after their 0-2 start to the season.
