Could DeMar DeRozan logistically play for the Bears and Bulls?

Calm down Chicago Bears fans. This isn't really a serious thing. We're just having some fun here. Calm down Chicago Bears fans. This isn't really a serious thing. We're just having some fun here. This all really stems from a video of Chicago Bulls small forward DeMar DeRozan tossing a 40 yard pass on a rope. Look at how tight this spiral is.

That's a beautiful throw there. This had me thinking about some of the great two sport athletes that were able to play two sports at the same time. Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson are the two obvious ones. But Charlie Ward is the guy I'm thinking about the most.

Ward played both basketball and football for Florida State. He wound up winning the Heisman Trophy and then entered the NBA Draft and had a 12 year career. The Florida State thing is what I want to focus on here. Ward was able to do that because he didn't join the basketball team until the the football seasons were over. We can't really do that with DeRozan.

Ok, we're going to have to ignore a few things here. Things like practices, human health and safety. I just want to know if it's logistically possible to do it. That's it. Can he get his body to the games? I fully realize how dumb this is and I've thrown myself head first into it anyways.

I broke it all down. Here's what I came up with.

GameCan he play?

Week 6 against Vikings

There’s 12 games left in the Bears season. The Bulls begin their preseason on Sunday. Starters usually rest for those games, so that would mean that DeRozan would be available for Week 6 against the Vikings.

Week 7 against Raiders

The Bulls pre-season ends on 19th and the regular season starts on the 25th. That would make him available to play against the Raiders on the 22nd

Week 8 at Chargers

The Bulls are in Detroit on Saturday and Indiana on Monday. He would have to fly out of Detroit after the game and get to Los Angeles early enough to get rest for the 8:20 start against the Chargers. The hard part is taking a second red eye in a row to get Indianapolis for Monday’s game. He might have to sit this one out.

Week 9 at Saints

DeRozan would have to fly out of Denver and get to New Orleans early for a 1:00 start. He could play this game and then fly back with the Bears that evening and have time to get some rest before the Bulls welcome in the Jazz on Monday.

Week 10 against Panthers

No problems here. The Bulls play at home on 11/8 and don’t play again until 11/12. He could play at home against the Panthers on 9th and then have a few days to rest up.

Week 11 at Lions

The Bulls play back to back home games against the Heat on 11/18 and 11/20. A quick flight to Detroit in the middle of those two games and DeRozan is playing on Sunday the 19th.

Week 12 at Vikings

There’s no way DeRozan makes this game. The Bulls are playing in Brooklyn on 11/26 and then head to Boston on 11/28. The Bears game is in Minnesota that weekend. It’s just not plausible that he plays.

Week 13 bye

The Bulls will have him all week this week

Week 14 against Lions

The Bulls play on 12/2 and then don’t play again until 12/11. He can play this home game in Detroit before heading to Milwaukee the next day.

Week 15 at Browns

He’s going to have to sit this one out. The Bulls play in Miami and then fly to Philadelphia. That’s just the just too much.

Week 16 against Cardinals

DeRozan can play at home with the Bears on Christmas Eve and then have time to spend Christmas with his family before playing at home with the Bulls on the 26th.

Week 17 against the Falcons

Another Bears home game that DeRozan can make. He’ll have two days off after this one and then he’s on a plane to Philadelphia to play the 76ers

Week 18 at Packers

The Bulls play in Charlotte the very next day. DeRozan is going to have to miss this one.

Ok, So DeRozan only misses three games for the Bears. That's not bad. Of course the Bulls are going to be upset about it when it's all said and done. But he'll be back in time for them to make a run to the playoffs and then, of course, play in the playoffs.

If you read this, I thank you for entertaining my foolishness.
