The Chicago Bears have a major issue that they could solve — at least partially — before the start of the 2022 season.
Chicago needs to badly add another wide receiver. Currently, Justin Fields' options — outside of Darnell Mooney — are all major question marks.
With Fields entering a pivotal season in his development, it's imperative that Chicago gets him some help. It doesn't have to be a blockbuster move — those moves aren't happening right now anyway. And I understand that the Bears are in the midst of a major rebuild.
But there are still some available options — specifically, New York Jets wide receiver Denzell Mims appears to be on the trade block.
Mims hasn't lived up to the expectations that come along with being a second-round pick, though he showed promise during his rookie season by catching 23 passes for 357 yards and no touchdowns.
Thriving with the Jets, however, is not something a lot of players do. So it's not necessarily entirely Mims' fault that he hasn't produced. It's a hopeless situation in New York.
The Bears could possibly get Mims for nothing more than a late-round draft pick. I know general manager Ryan Poles is trying to stockpile draft picks, but a late-round selection isn't much to give up for a young player with a lot of upside.
Mims had two seasons at Baylor with over 1,000 receiving yards. He clearly has talent, he just needs to find a better situation.
And that better situation could in be Chicago.
