Can the Bears' offense capitalize on the Broncos' historic Week 3 loss?
The Denver Broncos were embarrassed in Week 3 by the Miami Dolphins, in what could have been the worst loss in NFL history. The Bears need to take advantage of the wounded team left licking their wounds if they want to turn the season around before it's too late.
Both teams are ranked in the depths of nearly every defensive statistic this season, but that doesn't mean one should expect this Week 4 game to be a late shoot out. The Broncos offense has proven to be more than capable of striking quick, scoring 47 of their 69 total points in the first half, but has struggled in the final two quarters.
The Bears have trailed at the half in every game this season and have yet to recover from the slow starts. The best recipe for the Bears to defeat the Broncos is by striking first and striking fast. Chicago's special weapon to do so is by trusting the deep ball against the Broncos secondary.
If the Bears offense can hit on the deep balls early and get in control of the game, the rest of the offensive plan can fall together. Quarterback Justin Fields will be able to keep the Broncos defense on its toes all game if the downfield passes are effective.
3 other players to watch:
CB Terell Smith- The Bears fifth-round pick is expected to make his first career start against the Broncos. "Smitty" will be challenged with guarding a strong and talented trio of pass catchers deployed by the Broncos offense with three defensive backs out.
RT Darnell Wright- The Bears rookie right tackle will have to step up his game on Sunday if the offense wants to be effective. Wright has surrendered a sack in back-to-back games. The Broncos are tied for the 4th-fewest sacks in the league in 2023.
TE Cole Kmet- The team's honorary team captain for Week 4 is fired up to help make an impact for the Bears' offense. Kmet has totaled 104 yards on 11 receptions through three games this season. Denver has played tough against tight ends so far in 2023.
