The Chicago Bears signed free agent offensive lineman Lucas Patrick earlier this offseason to serve as the franchise's center in 2022.
Patrick is a Nashville, TN area native who spent the first six years of his career with the Green Bay Packers. After working with Aaron Rodgers for six seasons, the former Duke standout will be paired with second-year quarterback Justin Fields.
And it sounds like it's going to be a fruitful relationship.
Patrick spoke to reporters this week and he had plenty of great things to say about Fields.

"Fast…he can get moving pretty quick," said Patrick of Fields this week. "He’s a fun guy, he's young, so he likes to have the juice and energy. He's got a live arm. There were a few throws he made today where that ball, it's like it keeps getting faster in the air. He's soaking everything up."
“I had pretty high expectations,” added Patrick. “You don’t get drafted as high as he does in the National Football League just by kind of having a wet noodle or slow feet. He’s really talented. I thought he was going to be really good, and he is exceeding my expectations.”
Patrick has spent the last several years with a future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback — if he's impressed by Fields, then it's a great sign for the future of the Bears. I don't think Patrick would be gushing over Fields like this if he wasn't the real deal.
Fields obviously has to prove he's worthy of the praise — that won't be easy with a depleted roster — but so far it sounds like he's doing everything right.
