The Chicago Bears fell to 2-2 on Sunday via their 20-12 loss to the New York Giants.
While there were plenty of things that went wrong for the Bears on Sunday — like a muffed punt by rookie wide receiver Velus Jones — it was pretty clear who deserved most of the blame for the loss.
Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy didn't have his best afternoon against the Giants.
Specifically, some of Getsy's calls in the red zone were…head scratching.
The Bears are in a strange spot where their run blocking has been decent, but their pass blocking has been disastrous.
As a result, teams have been able to get pressure on quarterback Justin Fields fairly easily. They've also been able to key in on Chicago's running game, essentially eliminating the one strength of the Bears' offense.
Getsy, for whatever reason, hasn't been able to make the proper adjustments. And until he does, the Bears offense is going to continue to be painful to watch.
Chicago needs to start focusing on short passing routes over the middle. Fields doesn't have much time to throw — he was sacked five times on Sunday. Getsy's answer has been to continually run the ball up the middle, which has resulted in very little success.
Getsy is a first-time offensive coordinator in the NFL. He has a lot of growing to do. And no one was expecting the Bears to win the NFC North this season. But he's going to have to show some growth in the next few weeks or else Chicago will have a tough decision to make after the season.
