The Chicago Bears would be wise to trade for a rising star that's in a tough situation.
Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki is one of the most talented pass catchers in the NFL, but he's a bad fit in Mike McDaniel's offense.
As a result, Gesicki is seemingly a forgotten player in South Beach. He's caught just 15 passes for 170 yards through six games this season after catching 73 passes for 780 yards last season.
On Tuesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggested that the Dolphins could trade Gesicki before the trade deadline.
The Miami Dolphins are in a weird spot with Mike Gesicki, who is underused in coach Mike McDaniel's offense. After 73 catches a year ago, he has 15 through the first six games, though three have gone for touchdowns.
Sources say Miami is in the "we're-willing-to-listen" phase with Gesicki, but isn't quite shopping his services to other teams. Execs I've talked to don't want much to do with his $10.9 million franchise tag and find it odd Miami placed the tag on him in March to sit him on the bench.

If the Bears made a move for Gesicki, it would be geared toward next season.
The former Penn State standout is playing on the franchise tag this season which means he'll be a free agent next spring.
Chicago could trade for him and then sign him to a long-term deal before next season. The idea here is that Gesicki would be a cornerstone part of the offense.
Now, the Bears already have Cole Kmet, a talented tight end who is under contract through the end of the 2023 season.
But despite the presence of Kmet, this would still be a wise move for Chicago.
For starters, who knows what happens with Kmet after the 2023 season (though the fact he's an Illinois native and went to Notre Dame leads me to believe he'll stick around with the Bears). But even if Kmet stays long-term, there's still a place for Gesicki in the Bears' offense.
That's because Gesicki is a hybrid wide receiver/tight end. He can be used in a variety of ways in Luke Getsy's offense which is what makes him such an attractive option for Chicago.
Gesicki could instantly become a key underneath option for quarterback Justin Fields — something this team desperately needs as Fields doesn't usually have much time to throw the ball.
If the Bears want to see Fields progress, they have to get him some more weapons. Gesicki is a player with Pro-Bowl potential that they could go get. There aren't many players like that who will be available via trade. But Gesicki's tough situation in Miami makes this a realistic option for the Bears.
The building part of the rebuild in Chicago has to start at some point. And I think Gesicki would be a great first building block for the Bears.
