Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney made a comment on Sunday that should get fans fired up.
The Bears probably aren't going to the playoffs this season. But the franchise is on the right track and we've seen that with the progress the team has made weekly.
Chicago lost to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but Bears quarterback Justin Fields made one of the most exciting plays of the year.
Fields took off on a scramble and scored on a 61-yard touchdown run.
Near the end of that run, we see Mooney rushing down the field to make a block.
That's not something you always see from a wide receiver.
After the game, Mooney was asked about the block. And he credited the HITS philosophy from Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.
(HITS, in case you've somehow missed it, stands for Hustle, Intensity, Takeaways, and (playing) Smart….it's what Eberflus' system is based on.)
"We’re always runningno matter what," said Mooney after the game. "Sometimes we may be tired but just the installation of that principle is you’ve got to run, you’ve got to get to the ball as fast as you can."
These comments from Mooney show that the team has fully bought into Eberflus and his HITS philosophy. And when a whole team is bought in, special things can happen.
The Bears need to add some talent — which they're already starting to do (trading for Chase Claypool was a nice addition) — and when that happens, this is going to be a team that makes a lot of noise in the NFC.
This is just the beginning. It's about to be a fun time to be a Bears fan.
