Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky football offensive line wide receivers develop development

Nothing went right for Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears’ offense in a Week 4 loss to the New York Giants.

While there is plenty of finger pointing currently taking place in the Windy City, one of ESPN’s NFL analysts believes that Fields isn’t getting a fair shot to develop.

Dan Orlovsky threw Chicago’s entire offensive line under the bus, and for good reason. Fields had no time to stand in the pocket and was sacked six times by a mediocre Giants pass rush.

“Stop asking me about Justin Fields’ development. You mean to tell me you want anyone to make some sort of evaluation when it looks like that,” said Orlovsky as he referred to a messy pocket.

In order for the Bears to find out what they have in Fields they need to give the 23-year-old signal caller a clean pocket to operate from. On the few times the offensive line holds up he is still plagued by dropped balls from one of the worst wide receiver groups in the NFL.

Fields has been dealt a tough hand of cards. He’s onto his second system in as many years with the same personnel issues continuing to drag him down.

For a team that has been so desperate to find a franchise quarterback one would think the Bears would invest in the talent around Fields.

Orlovsky is right. Until Chicago can close the talent gap on offense, Fields’ growth will continue to be stunted.
