Chicago Bears quarterback Trevor Siemian made a comment on Sunday that says a lot about the culture that head coach Matt Eberflus has brought to the historic franchise.
Siemian, who started Chicago's game against the New York Jets due to an injury to Justin Fields, almost didn't play on Sunday.
There were various reports on Sunday morning that indicated Siemian was also going to miss the game due to an oblique injury suffered during pre-game warm-ups.
Siemian, however, battled through the injury and played the entirety of Chicago's 31-10 loss to the Jets.
After the game, Siemian said he was embarrassed by the injury because of all the injuries his teammates have battled through this season.
"Honestly, I'm more embarrassed to get an injury," said Siemian. "We got guys in there that are playing…going through hell and I have like a non-contact thing show up."
That comment from Siemian shows the strong culture that Eberflus has created in Chicago.
It would've been easy for Siemian to take the rainy afternoon off after injuring his oblique — especially with the Bears out of playoff contention.
But that's not what this Bears team is all about. They're tough, physical, and relentless. They still have a long way to go — the roster needs major improvements this upcoming offseason — but Eberflus has built a culture that's going to make this franchise a contender for years to come. And no one is going to want to play the Bears once this thing gets going.
It's been a tough season in Chicago. Wins have been few and far between. But there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the future.
