Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery paid a compliment to quarterback Justin Fields this week that shouldn't go ignored by the national media.

Montgomery praised Fields for his leadership, saying that he "listens to everybody".

"Justin Fields is the leader on the team," said Montgomery to Marquee Sports Network. "He’s an incredible leader. He listens to everybody, he’s a real humble guy and he just wants to win and ultimately make this organization and this team as good as they canbe."

There's been a lot of talk over the last week about quarterbacks and leadership — specifically surrounding New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson after his team lost 10-3 to the New England Patriots last week. Wilson didn't take any accountability for the loss to the Patriots and he was subsequently benched.

If Wilson is going to get that much coverage for being a poor leader, then Fields should get plenty of coverage for being an elite leader.

Fields has been criticized plenty since entering the NFL. But so far he's proven to be a dynamic player who is incredibly tough. And he's also developing into an elite leader.

Montgomery's comments shouldn't go unnoticed by the national media. If something similar was said about Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott or New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, it would be all over ESPN. The same should go for Fields as well.
