Sunday’s matchup between Justin Fields and Jalen Hurts gave a glimpse into the NFL’s future. Though Hurts’ Eagles got the best of Fields’ Bears, that didn’t stop Philadelphia’s head coach Nick Sirianni from raving about Fields abilities after the game.
Fields finished the game 14-of-21 (66.7%) passing for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He added 95 yards rushing on 15 carries, becoming just the third quarterback to eclipse 1,000 yards on the ground in a single season.
Keep in mind that Fields found success against a defense that ranks in the NFL’s top-10 in just about every important defensive metric. So, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to hear Sirianni praise the second-year starter in his postgame press conference.
“I do think Justin Fields is special. He’s got some special abilities. I know our quarterback is special as well. But give Justin Fields a lot of love right there because you see him – you see it on tape and how good he is and you see it up close and personal, and he’s special. It’s good for the NFL that two young quarterbacks going at it today that are going to be good quarterbacks in the NFL for a while.”
Sirianni isn’t the first head coach to shower Fields with compliments following a game against the Bears. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said something similar earlier in the season.
However, Sirianni’s comments carry a bit more wight considering that Philadelphia lays claim to the best record in the league. It’s always fun to hear opponents say great things about Fields, but Bears fans are ready to see his “special” abilities translate into wins.
