For the 18th consecutive year, the Chicago Bears will be watching the Super Bowl from the couch while the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles go toe-to-toe in the big game for the second time in three years.
Chicago fans are hungry just for another playoff appearance, much less another run at a Super Bowl, but hopefully good things are on the horizon.
After hiring a new head coach in Ben Johnson, things are finally looking up for the organization pairing the young offensive-mind with a new franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams. A recipe that should have quick results for the team.
But, in the meantime, the Bears will be joining 29 other teams in watching the Chiefs and Eagles compete for the Lombardi Trophy to close out the season, and there's going to be plenty of familiar faces on both sidelines. Here are some former Bears' players and coaches who will be a part of Super Bowl LIX.
Chiefs OC Matt Nagy

This one might hit too close to home for some Bears' fans. The former Chicago Bears head coach will be heading to his third consecutive Super Bowl as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator under head coach Andy Reid and the two will be looking to pull off the three-peat after winning each of the previous two Super Bowls on the staff.
The last time the Bears reached the playoffs was under Nagy in 2020, but the team decided to fire him the following season after going 6-11. His replacement, Matt Eberflus, lasted just 2.5 seasons with the Bears.
Clearly, Nagy is in a much better situation with Kansas City. He's even been getting a few head coaching interviews as of late but will likely be sticking with the Chiefs heading into the 2025 season after the Super Bowl.
Eagles FB Khari Blasingame

As for the former Bears' players, the first one you might recognize on the field could be fullback Khari Blasingame. Blasingame played two games for the Bears earlier in the year and played 32 games the prior two seasons in Chicago.
After switching away from a run-first style offense in 2024, the Bears couldn't find a spot for Blasingame on the offense anymore and released him on October 24th. On December 3rd, the Eagles added him to the practice squad and elevated him to the active roster to play on special teams from Weeks 14-16.
In the playoffs, Blasingame was elevated for all three games, playing mainly on special teams. During the regular season, practice squad players can only be elevated to the roster three times. In the playoffs, teams have unlimited practice squad elevations, meaning we could see Blasingame get called up again for the Super Bowl.
Eagles LB Nicholas Morrow

The same thing goes for linebacker Nicholas Morrow, who was elevated for the previous two playoff games for the Eagles. The seventh year linebacker started the season with the Buffalo Bills but re-joined the Eagles on January 14th after being waived by the Bills.
Morrow wasted no time getting on the field, playing 18 special teams snaps just five days later. Over the last two games, Morrow has had three tackles on special teams.
Bears' fans might remember Morrow from the 2022 season in which he started all 17 games. That season, Morrow totaled a career-high 116 tackles but walked after the season in favor of two free agent additions: Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards.
Chiefs DT Mike Pennel

For those paying attention to the trenches during the Super Bowl, you might recognize Mike Pennel playing on the Chiefs defensive front. The 33-year-old veteran appeared in each of the Chiefs' two playoff games totaling 45 defensive snaps. On Sunday, he even managed to record four tackles against the Bills.
Pennel played just one season with the Bears in 2022 but played all 17 games, including making two starts. After his one season in Chicago, Pennel made the wise choice of joining the Chiefs and winning back-to-back Super Bowls.
