Former Bears wide receiver suggests Chicago should steal a star away from the Super Bowl Champs this offseason
The hype train to bring Kenneth Walker III to the Chicago Bears is starting to move.
Over the next few weeks, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson will be walking around the facility sounding like Rachet from the animated film Robots saying “Upgrades, people, upgrades!”
The Bears are just a few pieces away from making a real Super Bowl push and the team is in the win-now window with quarterback Caleb Williams still on his rookie deal and plenty of positions can benefit from some upgrades this offseason.
The main target has to be on the defensive line to improve the pass rush and restocking the safety position. However, one position that keeps coming up in conversation to potentially upgrade this offseason is the running back position and former Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson has an exciting, but costly, option to consider.
Allen Robinson is pushing for the Bears to sign Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III
The former Bears wide receiver is already advocating for the Bears to go after Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, who’s now slated to be a free agent fresh off winning a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP award.
“Ben Johnson loves the run game and being able to have a two-headed monster in the backfield, we saw that this season and we also saw that in Chicago. Not to mention being able to lure one of the better players in the NFC from the Super Bowl champion now to your team,” Robinson explained on BetMGM Tonight. “The expertise, what he can do on the field, it goes deeper than just them acquiring Kenneth Walker but for the reasons of them getting him from the Seahawks and also being able to be big in that run game.”
Walker is certainly a top option to consider on the running back market after having an unreal postseason run for the Seahawks. It’s entirely likely that he doesn’t even hit the market to begin with and signs a new deal to stay in Seattle.
But, for the Bears side of things, this wouldn’t be a smart use of resources. Walker would easily be an upgrade over D’Andre Swift as the team’s starting back to pair with Kyle Monangai, but Walker is set to get a massive deal this offseason and the Bears still have solid value on Swift’s contract.
What would it take for the Bears to explore moving on from D’Andre Swift this offseason
The Bears do have an out in the contract to move on from Swift, a move that would clear nearly $7.5 million off the team’s 2026 salary cap. But, if the Bears go down that road, they’ll need to have a plan already in place to upgrade from Swift.
Walker doesn’t seem like a viable option with an extension in Seattle likely. Another player that’s been linked to the Bears this offseason is Trevor Etienne, but I have a hard time seeing the Jacksonville Jaguars letting him walk too. That narrows it down to basically Breece Hall, who at that point, can command a strong market for himself with little competition.
To me, the most logical option that makes sense to upgrade from Swift is seeing if the Miami Dolphins would part ways with De’Von Achane to pair him back up with running backs coach Eric Studesville. But, even that is unlikely.
All of this talk is exciting to consider but the Bears have a good thing already in the building with Swift and Monangai under contract as one of the league’s top one-two punches. There’s no need in blowing that up unless an obvious upgrade presents itself to Chicago.
