The Chicago Bears have had a rough go of things over the past month between injuries scattered across the roster and the on-going four game losing streak.
However, the team will be adding some positivity back to the roster while addressing a key position that's had multiple players go down due to injury.
On Tuesday, the Bears hosted a workout with five different safeties, and officially brought back a familiar face that fans will remember from the summer.
The Bears hosted former first-round pick Johnathan Abram, Tremaine Edmunds' brother Terrell Edmunds, Jason Taylor, Tracy Walker, and Hard Knocks fan favorite Adrian Colbert. Following the workout, Colbert hinted that he's the one who stood out the most with this post on social media and now it's been confirmed.
Colbert was a part of one of the more emotional moments on HBO's Hard Knocks prior to the season when the front office made the unfortunate decision to cut him from the roster. The decision was clearly the hardest one for general manager Ryan Poles to make while creating the 53-man roster.
But, it sounds like Colbert is getting a much deserved second chance in Chicago and I'm sure everyone in the building will be excited to have him back.
Colbert played in two games for the Bears in 2022 and appeared in two preseason games earlier this year. In those two preseason games, Colbert allowed one reception for three yards on two targets and had this crazy pass breakup.
The Bears are slightly thin at the position after placing Jaquan Brisker on the injured reserve with a concussion. Meanwhile, his replacement Elijah Hicks is currently dealing with an ankle injury suffered in Week 11 against the Packers.
The injury to Brisker got even more concerning after the team opted to place him on the IR last week after already missing five games due to his concussion. Here's what Poles had to say about the decision prior to kickoff on Sunday.
“It just wasn't making the progress that we wanted," Poles said. "We also know from a performance standpoint, when you're out of football for a while, there has to be a ramp up period to get your body in shape, to play the game and avoid other injuries such as soft tissue injuries. So we're going to hit the pause button, make sure that he's in a good space because our number one thing is to make sure that our players are in a healthy place to play this game at a hundred percent. So we're going to slow this down and take time and allow him to take his time to come back. Would love to see him back this year, but we're just going to take it one week at a time."
That's what makes the move to bring back Colbert so important, especially with Hicks' injury added on. Colbert now joins the room with Hicks, Kevin Byard, Jonathan Owens, and Tarvarius Moore.
Bears are clearly unhappy with the blocked field goal against the Packers and it has nothing to do with Matt Eberflus’ decision-making
Unfortunately it won’t change things.
