The Chicago Bears have announced concerning news regarding starting quarterback Justin Fields.

Fields left the game and was ruled out on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings after suffering a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand in the third quarter.

While speaking with the media on Monday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said that Fields will officially be doubtful to start the week ahead of the team's game against the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday.

Fields underwent an MRI testing on Monday following his injury on Sunday. Eberflus added that the MRI showed good things structure wise regarding Fields' injury but the team will continue to monitor it throughout the week.

"It's really going to come down to grip strength and natural swelling that occurs with this injury." Eberflus said. "So, we should know more at the end of the week."

Eberflus later elaborated more on the injury and the potential implications that could hamper Fields abilities throughout the week that will determine whether or not he will suit up on Sunday including his "grip strength, [ability to] grip and throw the ball, and hand the ball off."

Fields went 6/10 passing for 58 yards, one interception and an additional 46 yards on the ground before leaving the game. Undrafted rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent replaced Fields in Week 6 and is expected to be the team's starter this week if Fields is ruled out.

"We're always prepared for that for sure," Eberflus added. "Because it's like I said yesterday, you're one play away from being in there. And Tyson has earned that spot with his opportunity that he's created himself."

Bagent finished the game in Week 6 with 83 passing yards, a rushing touchdown, and two turnovers in replace of Fields.

The team's head coach also offered more concerning updates for right guard Nate Davis and cornerback Terell Smith that will affect the team for multiple weeks.

"Nate Davis suffered a high ankle sprain, he'll be out this week as well," Eberflus added. "That's going to be a weak week with Nate Davis. And then from last week, we had Terrell Smith, he has [mononucleosis], and he's going to be out, three to four weeks with that illness."

The is certainly bad news to start the week for the Bears as they begin preparations to face off against the Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) at home this weekend.
