Following a much-needed week of rest and recovery, the Chicago Bears are expected to receive a boost coming out of its bye week.
On Monday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles. While speaking to reporters, Eberflus revealed that impact rookies Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon have cleared concussion protocol.
“It’s great to get them back, we’re excited about it. Having Gordon there as the nickel that’ll be a big piece for us going forward,” Eberflus noted. “And obviously the impact that Brisker has with his hitting and his ball-hawking skills.”
The duo’s return certainly adds some security on the back end of the Bears’ defense. Chicago had been rolling out a makeshift secondary in their absence, which proved to be vulnerable against the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers.
Eberflus added that the offense should be adding a critical piece sooner rather than later. Running back Khalil Herbert, who led the team in rushing before going down with a hip injury in Week 10, should be back next week.
Herbert is eligible to return from Injured Reserve next week. Eberflus cleared the air on the team’s expectations for his return.
“We anticipate him being back. We are excited about getting him back next week. He’s getting ready to go. He’s been hitting his max speeds, his jumps look good, and the power in his legs look great.”
At this point in the season, injuries have ravaged just about every team in the league. However, one benefit of the late bye week is that Chicago will have fresh legs for the rest of the way.
The record won’t reflect it, but the Bears have experienced growth over the course of the season. This young team needs to clean up miscues on each side of the ball and look to build some momentum coming down the stretch.
