The Chicago Bears newest star on the defensive line continues to stack impressive games for his new team and Week 15's loss to the Cleveland Browns was no different.
Montez Sweat finished the game against the Browns with 2.5 sacks, three QB hits and five total tackles.
Sweat's 2.5 sacks in Week 15 set a new career-high and marked his fourth career game with 2.0+ sacks. No player on the Bears team has recorded 2.0+ sacks in a single game this season prior to Sweat in Week 15.
Sweat now leads the Bears with 6.0 sacks on the season despite not joining the team until Week 9 after the NFL trade deadline. Sweat still leads his former team, the Washington Commanders, in sacks after recording 6.5 sacks in Weeks 1-8.
Sweat has more sacks in his last three games than any other player on the Bears roster has totaled throughout the entire 2023 season.
"Montez has just been fantastic," Eberflus said prior to Week 15. "With his approach since he's been here, and he's got great energy. He's a great teammate. I would say it's always a great uptick because you have a great pass rusher and that's what he is."
According to Next Gen Stats, Sweat has a 19.1% pressure rate since being traded to the Bears, which is the 4th-highest in the NFL over that span (min. 150 pass rushes).
The trade to land Sweat a few weeks back continues to look better and better for Bears general manager Ryan Poles with each passing game. At his current rate, Sweat will make a strong argument for a potential Pro Bowl nod for the NFC.
The last Bears pass rusher to make the Pro Bowl was Khalil Mack when he got the nod in three consecutive seasons from 2018-2020. During those three seasons, Mack's most sacks single season was 12.5 with 18 QB hits in 2018.
Sweat has already notched 12.5 sacks and 24 QB hits through his first 14 games this season. He's more than deserving of the nod after the stellar season he's put together in 2023.
