The Bears already made a splash by trading the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, but they might not be done.
After trading the first pick, the Bears currently own the ninth pick. However, one analyst sees it as a possibility that the Bears move again.
David Kaplan of NBC Sports Chicago reported that the Bears are "absolutely open for business."
It makes sense that GM Ryan Poles would at least listen to calls. However, the top of the draft is expected to be very quarterback-heavy, with as many as four quarterbacks going inside the top 10 picks.
This would mean that the Bears could potentially get a steal on a position player at number nine. Perhaps the Bears believe they could get better value in this scenario by staying put.
Also, it takes two teams to execute a trade. Kaplan's scenario requires another team to be interested in the pick.
Assuming CJ Stroud and Bryce Young go one and two, and Will Levis and Anthony Richardson go before the ninth pick, there might not be much incentive to trade up.
With that being said, the Bears still have needs around the roster. This team is not one good player away from contention. One could certainly make the case that trading back and accumulating more draft capital is the best course of action.
It will be interesting to see how Poles plays this. He has already shown he is not afraid to make bold moves, so don't be surprised if he makes another one.
