Pending Super Bowl LX free agents that the Bears should target to overhaul the roster this offseason
The Chicago Bears should look to poach these Super Bowl standouts in free agency.
With the Super Bowl and the 2025-26 NFL season officially wrapped up, all 32 teams can now dive headfirst into the offseason with the goal of overhauling their respective rosters in order to make a Super Bowl run of their own next season.
The Chicago Bears, in the first season under head coach Ben Johnson, got closer to a Super Bowl run than many expected after losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round as the NFC’s No. 2 seed.
That kind of season electrifies an organization and the Bears are still in a ripe Super Bowl window with how the roster is currently constructed. Another strong offseason with the right additions can help put the Bears over the hump next season. Here’s some names that competed in Super Bowl LX that the Bears should keep an eye on this offseason.
Bears free agent targets from the Super Bowl LX rosters
S Jaylinn Hawkins
The Bears are going to have to seriously overhaul the safety position this offseason with four different safeties that finished out the season on expiring contracts. Chicago is widely expected to re-sign All-Pro safety Kevin Byard but the team will likely be in the market for a cheaper starting-caliber option to replace Jaquan Brisker.
Hawkins should be one of the top players the Bears look at on the free agent market to take over that role. After spending two seasons in New England, Hawkins is expected to have a fair market and would fit better in Chicago’s price range. He’s coming off a season in which he recorded four interceptions while having nine pressures and two sacks as well.
EDGE Boye Mafe
Overhauling the defensive line will be a must for the Bears front office, but the team will have to be smart about upgrading this room. Going after the big fish in Maxx Crosby or Trey Hendrickson sounds enticing, but it can cause a lot more harm than good due to the price required for either player.
Personally, the Bears need to use the draft to invest in the defensive line this offseason. But, if the team wants to add some juice to the room in free agency, Mafe should be available at a decent price coming off a season in which he totaled two sacks and 41 pressures.
OT Josh Jones
Certainly not the name many might have expected to see on this list, but Jones is a player I’ve been interested in going back to last offseason. Jones signed a one-year, $4 million deal with Seattle and went on to start three games late in the regular season at left tackle.
With Ozzy Trapilo set to miss the majority of the 2026 regular season coming off a patellar tendon injury, the Bears would be wise to add a stopgap tackle to the mix to compete with Theo Benedet for the starting job until Trapilo returns. If Braxton Jones isn’t interested in returning, I’d call Josh Jones.
CB Tariq Woolen
Woolen was a popular name during the NFL’s trade deadline this past season but the Seahawks opted to ride out the remainder of the season with their former fifth-round pick. As a starter, Woolen’s had his ups and downs but he’s an experienced player on the outside.
He’s very similar skill-wise to Zah Frazier, another fifth-round pick out of UTSA the Bears selected last season and are hoping to have back in the mix in 2026. While his play was shaky this past season, Woolen still allowed an 86.8 passer rating in coverage with five touchdowns allowed and 10 pass deflections. He’s also still 26-years-old had has the physical play-style that Dennis Allen looks for out of that position, but it’s hard to say if the Bears will really be in the market for a cornerback or not.
