New Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles is currently in the process of rebuilding the Bears' roster.

The best way to rebuild a roster is via the NFL draft. But unfortunately for Poles, the Bears don't have a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.

While that's obviously not ideal, it doesn't mean improving through the draft is impossible.

A lot of great players have been drafted in the second round (legendary Bears linebacker Mike Singletary for example). It just requires a bit more work (and luck) to hit on a star player in the second round.

Pro Football Focus has mapped out the perfect scenario for Chicago in the second round of the draft.

From PFF:

CENTRAL MICHIGAN T BERNHARD RAIMANN IS STILL ON THE BOARD AT 39

There is a disconnect between where Raimann falls on most consensus boards (expected draft position of 36.6 according to Grinding the Mocks) and where the PFF big board sees him (OT4 and a top-15 player overall). The Central Michigan tackle put up a 94.6 PFF grade in 2021 — just his second season at the position after moving from tight end. He’s a high-end athlete for the position who should only continue to improve with more experience and added size.

Taking an offensive lineman in the early rounds of the draft is almost always a strong strategy.

But I'm not sure that's the strategy the Bears should go with this year.

Chicago needs to give quarterback Justin Fields some weapons. Specifically, he badly needs another wider receiver.

There should be a few quality wide receivers available in the second round. A guy like Georgia's George Pickens could be an ideal fit for the Bears at No. 39 overall.

Pickens is expected to slide to the second round due to some injury issues in college. If he's healthy, he's easily one of the best players in the draft.

Other wide receiver options that are expected to be available in the second round include David Bell, John Metchie, and Justyn Ross.

Finding Fields some help has to be the priority in the draft. The Bears don't need to reach, but the focus needs to be on wide receivers. Maybe that means trading up. Whatever the case, Poles needs to make sure Fields has what he needs to be successful.
