There's no doubt that the Chicago Bears need some wide receiver help.

If the Bears want quarterback Justin Fields to take a step forward in 2022, they need to give him some more offensive weapons.

Now, obviously, the Bears aren't going to go out and make a trade for a DK Metcalf or Deebo Samuel. Chicago general manager Ryan Poles is using this season to reset the Bears' roster. He's not going to give up valuable draft capital in a trade.

That means Chicago needs to shop in the budget aisle. While that's not a sexy option, it's the best option for the Bears this offseason (that likely won't be the case next offseason).

One potential option for the Bears is New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton, a player that ESPN suggested this week is in danger of being released this summer.

Slayton showed promise during his first two seasons with the Giants, catching 50 passes for 751 yards and three touchdowns during his second season in the league (he had eight touchdowns as a rookie in 2019, too).

Things didn't go as smoothly for Slayton in 2021 as he missed a few games and caught just 26 passes for 339 yards and two touchdowns.

The former Auburn standout is only 25. He has upside and would be worth taking a flier on if the Giants release him.

There's also a connection between Slayton and the Bears.

Chicago wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert was Slayton's wide receivers coach in New York the last three seasons. A reunion between the two would make a lot of sense considering the Bears' severe lack of depth at the position.
