The 2025 NFL free agency period doesn’t officially open until Wednesday, March 12, at 4:00 p.m. ET, but the frenzy will start immediately as the week begins.

The NFL's legal tampering period begins on Monday, March 10 at Noon ET. Before you know it, there will be a flood of new deals agreed upon across the league, sending pending free agents to new teams for the 2025 NFL season.

Below, we'll track every move the Kansas City Chiefs make from the start of the legal tampering period through the various waves of free agency. Here, you’ll find the Chiefs' various 2025 NFL free agency happenings, including signings, contract tenders, trades, cuts, free-agent departures, contract extensions, and restructures.

Keep track of everything down below:

Roster moves Chiefs made before 3/10:

  • LB Blake Lynch re-signed
This is an incredible story here. Lynch was on the Chiefs' practice squad for eight days during the 2024 NFL season, being elevated to the 53-man roster and playing in Week 18 against the Broncos. After just over a week with the team, he was one of the top performers in that game, having never played in the system.
  • LG Joe Thuney traded to the Bears
Kansas City flipped their 2024 team MVP to the Bears in a move that cleared $16M in cap space and earned them a fourth-round pick in 2026. Had Thuney walked as a free agent in 2026, the 32-year-old would qualify for no more than a fifth-round compensatory pick in 2027 due to accruing over a decade of service time.
  • P Matt Araiza ERFA tender
  • Araiza's inaugural campaign in Kansas City wasn't the best, but he'll at least have a chance to compete for the job in 2025. His $960K ERFA tender is non-guaranteed, allowing the Chiefs to bring in some competition after the draft.
  • WR Hollywood Brown re-signed
  • The Chiefs always wanted to bring Hollywood Brown back for another year after he missed most of the 2024 NFL season with a sternoclavicular joint injury. When he returned late in the season and postseason, they started to see their vision for the offense unfold. A one-year deal gives him another chance to prove himself.
  • LB Nick Bolton re-signed
Bolton agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth $45M, including $30M guaranteed. As the green dot on defense, he's one of Steve Spagnuolo's favorite players. This deal ensures that he stays in K.C. and away from AFC West rivals, with teams like Denver and Las Vegas rumored to be interested in his services.
  • RG Trey Smith signs the franchise tag
Smith signing his tag shouldn't necessarily be viewed as a bad thing. He's willing to play on a one-year $23.4M deal, which should tell the team exactly what they need to do to strike a long-term deal.

3/10: Day 1 of Legal Tampering, tracking every Chiefs roster move

  • Chiefs to sign LT Jaylon Moore on a two-year $30M deal per ESPN's Matt Miller.
This is a risky signing with a high upside if it pays off. If Moore proves himself as a starting-caliber left tackle, the Chiefs can re-sign him in two years when a weaker 2023 NFL draft class comes up for contract extensions.

  • Chiefs to sign RB Elijah Mitchell on a one-year deal worth up to $3.5M per FOX's Jordan Schultz. This move is a fun one, giving Kansas City a legit 4.3s speed at running back to pair with Isiah Pacheco in the backfield. The key here is that Mitchell needs to stay healthy, something he could not do in San Francisco.

  • Chiefs lose RB Samaje Perine, who reportedly signed a two-year deal worth up to $3.8 million with the Cincinnati Bengals. It looks like Kansas City preferred Mitchell's services over Perine's, as they signed for similar earnings. Perine's highlight as a Chief was catching the game-sealing reception in the AFC Championship Game.

  • Chiefs lose WR Justin Watsonwho reportedly signed a deal with the Houston Texans. While Kansas City would've liked to keep Watson, it also felt like he'd run his course with the Chiefs.

  • Chiefs lose DT Tershawn Wharton, who is expected to sign a three-year deal worth $54M with the Carolina Panthers. A homegrown talent getting the bag in free agency is never a bad thing, especially when it nets your team a compensatory pick.

  • Chiefs re-sign LB Cole Christiansen on a one-year deal, per Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick. Christiansen returns for a fourth season in Kansas City as a multi-phase special teamer and depth linebacker at 27 years old.

  • Chiefs re-sign LS James Winchester on a one-year deal, per multiple reports. With a decade of service time, he'll earn a fully guaranteed contract at $1.65M.

  • Chiefs to sign Chargers CB Kristian Fulton on a two-year deal, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. This is a future-thinking move from Brett Veach, not only reinforcing the team's depth in 2025, but ensuring the cupboard isn't empty in 2026, when three cornerbacks are slated to become free agents.

  • Chiefs S Justin Reid to sign with Saints on three-year $31.5M deal, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Kansas City-New Orleans pipeline continues with Reid, who gets basically the same deal that he got with the Chiefs three seasons ago. This means that Jaden Hicks will step into a starting role in 2025.

  • Chiefs re-sign practice squad TE Robert Tonyan, per NFL Network's Tom Peliserro. Tonyan is quality depth for Kansas City as they head into training camp. He's only a half-decade removed from his best-ever NFL season in Green Bay.

  • Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins to sign with Ravens on one-year deal, per Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz. A midseason trade acquisition, Hopkins' brief run in Kansas City ends. He'll get another shot to visit the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in 2025.

3/13: Second day of new league year, tracking every Chiefs roster move

  • Chiefs DE Joshua Uche signs with the Eagles on a one-year deal, per report. The failed midseason trade acquisition joins the team that beat Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX. Will he have an impact in Philly?
  • Chiefs K Spencer Shrader signs with the Colts. One of the Chiefs' backup kickers for the 2024 NFL season, Shrader should get a shot to earn a starting job in Indy.

  • Chiefs sign former Raiders QB Gardner Minshew on one-year deal, per reports. Minshew will back up Patrick Mahomes in 2025, playing on a vet-minimum deal after being released by Las Vegas

3/14: Third day of new league year, tracking every Chiefs roster move

  • Chiefs re-sign QB Bailey Zappe on one-year deal, per reports. Zappe finished the year with Cleveland after spending time on the K.C. practice squad in 2024. He figures to battle with Chris Oladokun for the No. 3 spot.

  • Chiefs re-sign RB Kareem Hunt on a one-year $1.5M deal, up to $2.5M with incentives, per multiple reports. This was an expected move for Kansas City after Hunt reunited with the team in 2024.

  • Chiefs sign former Vikings DL Jerry Tillery on a one-year deal, per report. Kansas City needed interior defensive line depth, and they've shown interest in Tillery in the past, given his positional versatility and flexibility.
